The CANable Pro is a low-cost fully isolated USB to CAN adapter. Connect to any CAN2.0A/B network without worrying about common mode offset, ground noise, or damaging your computer! The CANable Pro is open-source hardware that is manufactured in the USA.

The CANable Pro provides the same serial-line CAN interface on Windows, Linux, and Mac as the original CANable but also features breakaway mounting holes, enhanced ESD protection on both CAN and USB, and full galvanic isolation.

Just like the original CANable, the CANable Pro supports the alternative candlelight firmware which enumerates as a native CAN interface on Linux for ease of integration into embedded systems and works with the cangaroo software on Windows and Linux for easy viewing and transmitting of CAN packets.

CANable Pro is now in stock at the Protofusion Labs store

Features

  • Supports CAN2.0A and B, baud rates up to 1M
  • Full galvanic isolation
  • Breakaway mounting points
  • Additional ESD/transient protection on CAN and USB interfaces
  • Serial-line can (slcan) interface for Mac, Windows, and Linux
  • Native Linux and enhanced Windows support with candlelight firmware
  • 3-pin screw terminal with CANH, CANL, and GND
  • Button for entering the bootloader
  • Jumper to enable/disable termination
  • Made in the USA!

FeatherHAB Source Code Released! http://protofusion.org/wordpress/2016/02/featherhab-source-code-released/ http://protofusion.org/wordpress/2016/02/featherhab-source-code-released/#comments Mon, 29 Feb 2016 17:00:16 +0000 http://protofusion.org/wordpress/?p=2379 ]]> featherhab-0.1FeatherHAB hardware and software source code are now available for download! The hardware is released under the Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license and the firmware is released under the GNU Affero Public License.

FeatherHAB Features:

  • STM32F0 microcontroller
  • SI446x transmitter broadcasting APRS on 144.390MHz
  • ublox MAX8 GPS module for position tracking
  • Buck-boost power supply for running off of single LiMnO2 cells
  • Opencm3-based firmware compiled with GCC ARM

A st-link programming adapter, blackmagic probe, or similar is required to flash FeatherHAB boards. You will also need some means of connecting to the programming pads on the FeatherHAB PCB. You can solder wires directly to the programming pads, or you can build a ProtoProg adapter.

The CANable USB to CAN adapter is now available for purchase on the Protofusion Tindie store! The CANable is an open-source USB to CAN adapter that works on Linux, Mac and Windows. The CANable shows up as a virtual serial port on your computer and provides a standard serial-line CAN interface. CANable is also compatible with a Python CAN library so you can easily code scripts that interface with the bus. Check out canable.io for more information.

Next-Generation Luma Nodes – Build Timelapse http://protofusion.org/wordpress/2014/02/next-generation-luma-nodes-build-timelapse/ http://protofusion.org/wordpress/2014/02/next-generation-luma-nodes-build-timelapse/#respond Sun, 02 Feb 2014 19:50:23 +0000 http://protofusion.org/wordpress/?p=1835 ]]>

The next iteration of the Luma node has been fabricated and assembled! The new node incorporates 3 10W RGBW LEDs, controlled with constant-current buck drivers and an ATTINY2313 microcontroller. Like all Luma nodes, up to 32 nodes can be daisy-chaned and controlled over RS485 with our open-source music synchronization software. Support for DMX is nearly complete, and will be ready for use after some additional testing!

Protofusion Arch Linux ARM Mirror http://protofusion.org/wordpress/2013/12/protofusion-arch-linux-arm-mirror/ http://protofusion.org/wordpress/2013/12/protofusion-arch-linux-arm-mirror/#respond Tue, 10 Dec 2013 18:02:01 +0000 http://protofusion.org/wordpress/?p=1816 ]]> Arch Linux ARM

Protofusion now hosts an official mirror of Arch Linux ARM! The mirror is hosted on Protofusion’s main server, which is colocated in Dearborn, MI. Mirror selection is geoip-based, so if you use Arch Linux ARM in the Michigan/Ohio/Midwest, you’re probably getting data from the Protofusion server. See the official mirrors page below for more information and a map of mirrors.

If you’re in the Detroit area this weekend, check out the Protofusion booth at Maker Faire Detroit! This year we will be indoors so all of our lighting will be much more visible. We’ll have our new Luma nodes up and running, which integrate an onboard 10W RGBW LED and heatsink. We will also be showing off our PicoBuck LED driver (soon available from SparkFun Electronics!) and our new MNL music synchronization node. Come check it out!

Check out the ProtoFusion booth at the Detroit Maker Faire on July 28-29 at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI! We’ll be showing off our Luma music-synchronized lighting nodes and our inexpensive PID system for espresso machines.

We just finished assembling 9 additional Luma nodes for the Faire, which will be driving individual 10W RGB LEDs and one 2M strip of 120 RGB LEDs. We also wrapped up some more updates to the control software, adding a new moving-average filter for beat thresholds and tweaked FFT binning along with a revamped multitouch OSC control interface.

All of our current boards are hand-populated, which takes a significant amount of time. We hope to get a reflow oven up and running for further boards, along with a vinyl cutter for making solder stencils.
